No surprise here, but I love words. I love reading words. I love writing words. I love editing words. I simply adore words, words, words!

Though I believe myself to have a sizable vocabulary, I find myself discovering new and interesting words everyday. So, I've decided to share some here.

  • Anthemoessa (n) - the island home of sirens in Greek mythology.
  • Bonhomie (n) - good-natured easy friendliness.
  • Bulwark (n) - a defensive wall; a person, institution, or principle that acts as a defense. Also, the extension of a ship's sides above the deck.
  • "F" me running - an expression of disbelief or amazement.
  • Froshing (v) - an initiation of freshmen, usually involving pain or embarrassment.
  • Glaucous (adj) - of a dull grayish-green or blue color; or, covered with a powdery bloom like that on grapes. 
  • Hogan (n) - A Navajo Indian dwelling usually made of mud and logs, with eastern facing doors.
  • Kodak courage (n) - extra dose of courage to go above and beyond your physical abilities, especially when being filmed or photographed.
  • Linden (n) - a tree with heart-shaped leaves and fragrant, yellowish blossoms; it sheds its leaves annually and is native to north, temperate regions. {picture}
  • Logophile (n) - a lover of words.
  • Lummox (n) - a clumsy, stupid person.
  • Macerated (v) - (especially with reference to food) soften or become softened by soaking in a liquid; (archaic use) cause to grow thinner or waste away, especially by fasting. Noun form - maceration or macerator.
  • Manga (n) - a style of Japanese comic books and graphic novels aimed at adults as well as kids. {picture}
  • Mawkish (adj) - sad or romantic in a foolish or exaggerated way; having an insipid often unpleasant taste; sickly or puerilely sentimental.
  • Mogul (n) - in addition to being an important and powerful person, it's also a very small hill of snow that you jump over while skiing.  
  • Muppetflails (v) - Muppet (a puppet from The Muppet Show) + flail (to wave or swing vigorously). Use "Muppetflails" to describe yourself or an action when you are so crazy, overly excited about something.
  • Nitrile (n) - an organic cyanide containing the group CN which, on hydrolysis, yields an acid with elimination of ammonia.
  • Querulous (adj) - complaining in an annoyed way; habitually complaining; fretful, whining.
  • Rill (n) - small stream; a shallow channel cut in the ground by running water.
  • Sapiophile (n) someone who is sexually attracted to intelligent people.
  • Scut monkey (n) - a popular, demeaning term for a medical student at the bottom rung of a patient management team. 
  • Sibyl (n) - a woman in ancient times who utters the oracles and prophecies of a god.
  • Sonorous (adj) - (of speech or other sound) imposingly deep and full; capable of producing a deep or ringing sound; using imposing language.
  • Tender garage (n) - a storage facility on a yacht to house smaller water vehicles. {picture}
  • Torpor (n) - a state of physical or mental inactivity; lethargy.
  • Triumvirate (n) - a government of three officers or magistrates, functioning jointly; any association of three in office or authority. Any group or set of three.
